Chris McGregor - DL/LB Assoc. Defensive Coordinator

Coach Chris McGregor is a highly experienced football coach and former player with an extensive career spanning multiple levels of the game. A standout athlete in high school and college, he began his professional journey by attending a free-agent camp with the Chicago Bears in 1996. Over an 18-year playing career (1996–2014), he competed at a high level across various leagues, earning multiple championships and individual accolades. He was a key contributor to title-winning teams, including the Minneapolis Lumberjacks (2001), Minnesota Maulers (2002, 2003), and the St. Paul Pioneers, where he closed out his career with an NEFL Championship and a USA Bowl National Championship in 2014. His dominance on the field earned him multiple All-Star selections across the U.S. and Canada, the NAFL All-Star Game MVP (2005), and the Minneapolis Iron Man Award (2004).

Transitioning into coaching, Coach McGregor has played a pivotal role in developing elite defensive talent. Before joining the Saint Paul Bears, he served as the Defensive Line Coach and Assistant Defensive Coordinator for the Minneapolis Warriors (2023–Present) and previously coached the defensive line for the St. Paul Pioneers (2021–2023). As Head Coach of the Minnesota Spartans (2011–2012), he led the team with a focus on discipline, teamwork, and resilience. Known for his aggressive defensive philosophy—“Always Attack, Never Retreat, Let’s E.A.T. (Eliminating All Threats)”—he emphasizes mental toughness, precise technique, and relentless pursuit on every play.

Coach McGregor studied at Indiana University (1993–1995), where he excelled as a multi-sport athlete in football, basketball, and track. His experience as both a player and coach has shaped his approach to leadership, player development, and building championship-caliber teams. Now as the Defensive Coordinator for the Saint Paul Bears, he is committed to elevating the team’s defensive unit, fostering a culture of excellence, and leading them to championship success.
